What is an Infertility Specialist?

Infertility is defined as a woman who has not been able to conceive naturally after 1 year of unprotected intercourse, or a man that has not been able to impregnate his partner after 6 months of unprotected intercourse. There are couples in which one partner has been unable to conceive and the other is successfully conceiving. Many couples face this issue alone, and as a result are denied treatment.
As with so many other issues in medicine, the problem of infertility is not one that just affects the couple trying to conceive. In addition to the individual conception process, there are a variety of treatments that can be taken to assist with the on going process of successful conception. These treatments include ovulation induction, intrauterine insemination (IUI), egg donation, and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).

Is there such a thing as an ‘Infertility Specialist?’

Infertility is a very wide and complex issue. It can be defined in many ways. How does the person who is asking for help feel about their inability to conceive? Will they accept or reject the help that is offered to them? In most cases, the person asking for help does so out of desperation or even hopelessness. Other cases involve the need to find out why they cannot conceive or stay pregnant. Rarely does a person who has not conceived within a year or six months seek help for their infertility but still wishes to do so, after all, there are many causes of infertility that do not require a medical specialist to investigate. Does this mean a specialist is not necessary? Or that the specialist simply need not exist?
Many people know of the term ‘Infertility Specialist’ but are unsure of their true meaning and thus, if they do seek one out, they may never gain access to needed help. A specialist has a medical degree, specialized training in infertility and/or IVF, and, in most cases, three or more years of experience treating infertility patients. Most specialists also have hospital privileges and can therefore perform procedures at their own private practice.

The Complete Guide to Losing Weight Naturally! The Easy Way!

In my opinion, there is no special infertility specialist. All of the ‘specialists’ in the field of infertility have a unique set of skills that they use to help people who cannot conceive or carry a pregnancy to term. There are fertility specialists, reproductive endocrinologists, reproductive gynecologists and fertility doctors. Each has their own skills and areas of interest but none has the entire body of knowledge concerning infertility.
Fertility doctors, gynecologists and reproductive endocrinologists have extensive training in the fertility of women and men. All three specialties provide care to women and couples having trouble conceiving but only a fertility specialist has the knowledge required to treat many of the specific problems that go along with infertility.
There is no one in this nation who can accurately diagnose why you are infertile, or identify a problem or the cause of your infertility problems. Typically, fertility specialists are unable to provide a definitive answer to the question, “Why am I infertile?” The only person who can answer this question and has the background in infertility is a fertility specialist.
If you want to know whether or not you are infertile you need to see your doctor. Your doctor can tell you why you are infertile and what could be causing your infertility problems. You can’t know that you are infertile unless your doctor first tells you.
