The Story Behind the Most Expensive Dress in History – Dolce and Gabbana’s Corset Dress

Introduction: The World’s Most Expensive Dress and Its Inspiration

Originally, this artwork was the work of Spanish artist Jaume Plensa. It has been dubbed “Talking Sculpture” because of its ability to capture and convey expressions such as happiness, anger or sadness. The sculpture is a depiction of two people with their backs facing each other who are talking to one another. Their features are made up of hundreds of different faces. Although not expensive in the traditional sense, this piece is extremely valuable as it has a special story behind it.
In March 2012, Cristina and Ferran Adrià put Plensa’s sculpture up for auction at the salesroom of the Hotel Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona. The statue was sold for €4.5 million to an anonymous Chinese buyer who is now its official owner. The news of Plensa’s sculpture being sold at an auction has attracted a lot of attention. The owners of the hotel and the celebrities who bid for their item have been praised for their ability to appreciate art. Even though Plensa and the Adrià brothers are huge fans of each other, it is not certain that they would have even decided to buy this particular work together.
